Hamilton's Ventura Inn and Suites is Part of the Ministry of Health's National Travel Assistance Scheme

Hamilton’s Ventura Inn and Suites is one of a selected group of accommodation providers chosen to deliver essential short term accommodation to patients of Waikato Hospital.
Patients and their supporters who live more than 100km from the hospital can qualify for funding from National Travel Assistance (NTA), which covers a substantial amount of the cost of accommodation.
“Ventura’s relationship with the hospital is a consequence of the Hilda Ross accommodation being closed down last November and the need to provide nearby accommodation,” says Kenneth Mitchell, owner of Ventura Inn and Suites.
Waikato Hospital’s Hilda Ross building had been used as accommodation for hospital patients and their families since 1993 but closed in November 2015 after being deemed earthquake prone.
“As a tertiary facility, Waikato Hospital routinely offers procedures not available with nearby regional Health Boards and so it is very common to have patients and supporters travel to the Hamilton area,” says Mr Mitchell.
Mr Mitchell says although the National Travel Assistance scheme covers most of the cost for patients and supporters staying at Ventura Inn and Suites, a modest co-payment of $10 to $25 dollars is applied to meet the full rate.
“The most popular rooms on offer are our Standard Studios, says Mr Mitchell. “Attractively priced at $125 per night for one or two persons, guests receive a four-star experience with complimentary continental breakfast, free Ultra-Fast Fibre broadband, onsite parking and close proximity to the hospital.”
Ventura Inn and Suites is currently undergoing a significant upgrade to its guest rooms and public areas. The upgrade is due for completion in early 2017.
“The most popular star rating for hotel guests is four star and Ventura intends to migrate its current three star status into that four star category,” says Mr Mitchell.
Ventura Inn and Suites is located in the heart of Hamilton City, on Clarence Street, within easy walking distance to Hamilton’s best cafés, bars and restaurants.
