Once you have decided upon your preferred Auckland graduation photographer, there are many things you should take into consideration to ensure that your portraits are created exactly how you have envisioned them.  Everything from hair and makeup through to clothing and attire should be considered beforehand to make sure there aren’t any unplanned surprises on the day of your shoot.

It is best to experiment with different hair styles prior to coming in for your graduation shoot, to ensure that on the day you are feeling great and at your best.  The last thing you want is to be feeling uncomfortable in front of the camera, as this will certainly show in your results.  It is best to not to try a complete new haircut either just prior to your booking as you may feel self-conscious on the day.  Rather it is better to simply get a trim to your current style.

Hair and makeup should also be planned beforehand.  Try to avoid going overboard with heavy foundation and it is best to avoid a ‘shiny’ look, as the studio lights will reflect from this.  Again it is best to try different options prior to your shoot to find a look that you feel suits you and you feel comfortable with.  Professional retouching will also help with any unwanted blemishes etc. so don’t feel that any minor imperfections you may have will have an impact on your portraits.

For clean shaven men it is best to shave just prior to your shoot, as you will most likely want to avoid a 5 0’clock shadow.  If you have a beard, ensure it is tidy for a smart, professional look.

You may also wish to bring along a couple of clean changes of clothing that you feel comfortable in and that you feel reflect your personality.  Likewise, a hair brush/comb and other basic grooming supplies as well as any props (such as flowers, your certificate etc.) which you may feel add to your portraits should be brought along.

As always it is best to discuss any questions you have with your graduation photographer when making your booking.  A little preparation will ensure that you feel relaxed and comfortable during your photo shoot, and this will be reflected in your graduation portraits!
