New Managers at BK's Hamilton Motel Ensure Guests' Comfort and Safety

The new managers at BK’s Hamilton Motel have had 30 years’ experience in the motel industry and pride themselves in the comfort, safety and wellbeing of their guests.
Mel and Nigel Orr arrived at the beginning of November and have settled into their new roles as managers of Hamilton’s newest motel.
“Being only five months old, the motel still has that fresh new smell,” say the couple, who have just finished a two-year spell running a five-star retreat on the West Coast. “We’re putting our own stamp on it, using everything we’ve learnt from our many years in the industry.”
Built to specifications exceeding the new earthquake standards of 2015, BK’s Hamilton Motel is able to withstand severe earthquakes. It has also been built with soundproof walls, doors and windows.
“The whole building has been built above specifications of soundproofing,” says Nigel. “The doors are double the requirements of the regulations.”
“People might think because we’re on a main road it would be noisy,” says Mel, “but once we explain the sound proofing and the triple glazing the guests understand why it’s so quiet. They often tell us in the morning they couldn’t believe how quiet it was – and how well they slept!”
Mel and Nigel pride themselves in the security of the accommodation and the welfare of their guests.
“Guest comfort, safety and wellbeing are paramount,” says Nigel. “I walk people out to their cars and I bring their bags in.”
BK’s Hamilton Motel is the closest motel to Braemar Hospital and only a few minutes’ walk to Waikato Hospital, although Nigel prefers to drive guests to the hospitals to ensure they get to where they need to go safely.
“Guest security is very important,” says Mel. “Nobody can do anything on this property without us knowing. And because we get elderly, or people travelling on their own like female corporates, this is a place they can feel safe.”
