BK's Palmerston North Motor Lodge and Homestead Construction Laud the Value of Building with Concrete

BK’s Palmerston North Motor Lodge opened for business in 2009, an astonishing 20 weeks from the commencement of building.
The company responsible for getting it built so efficiently was Homestead Construction, which took on the challenge to build BK’s Palmerston North Motor Lodge as well as BK’s Petone Motor Lodge, at the request of the owners of the BK’s Motor Lodge chain, Liz and Richard Ward.
BK’s Palmerston North Motor Lodge is a 1600m2, 2 level, 35 room 5-star motel on Cuba Street, Palmerston North, right across the road from the famous Roberston Holden Speedway track.
“Building a motel, especially of this size, was new territory for us,” says Jason Lawry of Homestead Construction, whose main focus for the past 40 years has been building concrete homes.
“Looking back, there wasn’t a lot of difference in this build, apart from the size,” says Mr Lawry. “Regardless of the size, Homestead always applies the same high quality residential standard to every commercial build. That’s what sets us apart.”
The Wards compared various construction companies before contracting Homestead to build their new motel.
“The main reason Richard and Liz chose Homestead Construction was due to our experience with precast concrete construction,” says Mr Lawry. “During the tender process, the Homestead team also came up with a superior, more cost effective method for building than what was originally designed.”
“We feel that the BK’s Palmerston North Motor Lodge project is a landmark in the history of Homestead. The success of the BK’s Palmerston North project lead Richard and Liz to work with us again in the build of their BK’s Motor Lodge in Petone in 2012.
“Since these two BK’s Motor Lodges were built, Homestead’s reputation has steadily grown as word has spread quickly that Homestead has the touch for building motels and apartment style living.
“Thus, these projects have changed Homestead’s core focus from homes to the high-density, apartment & affordable housing sector. This has evolved as developers, architects and engineers recognise the value and efficiencies of building in concrete.”
