Once upon a time, in a land far far away (yes, it’s the Down Under we’re talking about) there lived couples who went to their city hall to get married; then, these same couples celebrated their W day with just a few good friends and some family, afterwards. It was simple, never pompous, and almost always small. The parents paid for the weddings, couples played along. However, in recent years, the fairytale’s been rewritten; things are gradually shifting over more to the “This is my day and I’ll do whatever I want” side, with the in-loves challenging the known paths of the “I do” and creating their own. This has much to do with the fact that millennials are now paying for their own joys, so why wouldn’t they make things sparkle!

When it comes to organizing your wedding, everything is allowed these days! First off, you can  choose from a variety of themed weddings and exotic destinations (from an Aussie point of view, “exotic” means traveling to, say, central Europe or…. the cold Scandinavia!). Make it a memorable fun day by adding champagne fountains, personalized websites, photo booths, drone photography, goodie bags or fairy floss carts. Pay special attention to food by including celebrity chef-designed menus or hire such amazing companies like Catering Project to help you plan your wedding. You are also free to experiment with wedding fashion. As you can see, we’re witnessing an entirely new breed of bride and groom and we can’t stay neutral!

Let’s see what we’re to expect in the period to come:

Trend: Nude and Silver hues

It seems like everything is moving away from the all-white to the nude and silver. This year will be all about gowns made in dusty nudes, muted neutral shades from silver grey hues to off-whites and even subtle pastel colors too. It’s looking absolutely romantic and charming!

Trend: Tropical Luxe

With Dolce and Gabbana launching a tropical-inspired Fall/Winter collection for 2016/17, it wasn’t long before it worked its way into the bridal section. Naturally, not all brides are embracing it for attire (although, there are those busy, working ladies keeping things stylish yet day-fashion while saying their “I dos”) but most are including the banana leaf print into their wedding invitations, menus, table decorations and even centerpieces.

Trend: Statement Jackets

Thanks to Kim and Kanye‘s custom-made ‘just married’ leather jackets, brides and grooms have warmed up to the idea of accessorizing their wedding attire with jacket saying “just married”, “his”, “hers”, “hopeless romantic”, etc. It’s cute!

Trend: Long-stemmed Bouquets

Well, 2017 will be all about the long-stemmed bouquet, so prepare for the ‘less is more’ vibe. A handful of roses will do.

Trend: Velvet Elements

Whilst Australia is extremely hot for the most part of the year, velvet has managed to find way to stay a key player in 2017 weddings. Suitable for winter weddings, velvet elements, such as chairs, tablecloths, ribbons for bouquets and even bridesmaids’ dresses will be dominant.

Trend: Pantone colors

We all know Pantone is the king of colors, and we always trust it. In 2017, green appears to be the star of the bunch, with Pantone ‘kale’ dominating the scene. Also, expect to see touches of ‘pale dogwood’ and ‘hazelnut’ too, possibly included in gown accents or venue decorations.

Trend: Relaxed hair and interesting hairpieces

The year 2017 is all about hairpieces rather than headpieces. This season, hairpieces will gently adorn uber relaxed hair (tousled top-knots, hair down, relaxed ponytails, etc.) and they will feature intricate textures and patterns without overpowering or ‘taking anything away’ from the ethereal look.

Trend: Ballet Beauty

Ballet-inspired style featuring ballerina references, such as ballet ribbon lace-up backs will definitely be a feature brides will adore in 2017.

Trend: Doughnut Walls

Last but not least - DOUGHNUT WALLS for weddings, possibly the BEST wedding trend in Australia. You’re welcome, bye.
