As with any sport or activity we need a starting point, and the same applies when we would like to learn how to rock climb. Old wisdom would say that, if you wanted to learn a particular skill, seek the community that is engaging in that skill, and go join them, and Glen Eden Extreme Edge are the place to find this community.

Visiting an indoor rock climbing gym is a great introduction when learning how to rock climb, and joining Glen Eden Extreme Edge has the added benefit of meeting and socialising with others who share the same enthusiasm as you, for this wonderful sport.

Similarly, Glen Eden Extreme Edge gym is great for children wanting to learn to climb. With over 30 uniquely themed walls, ClimbZone is a revolution in child-centred climbing and is a great place for kids to begin their climbing journey.

Catering for kids from three years plus and all fitness levels, ClimbZone is one of the most inclusive family-friendly activities in the Auckland area and their creatively themed ClimbZone walls are guaranteed to entertain, exercise and exhilarate the entire family.

Harnesses and climbing shoes can be hired for a very reasonable price and there are always instructors on hand at all times to help you and your family out, plus all kids and young adult classes are run in parallel with school terms.

The Rock Hoppers class is tailored for beginners to intermediate climbers looking to improve/gain basic climbing skills and technique. Throughout this course Glen Eden Extreme Edge focus on belay safety skills, climbing proficiency, gear, rope knowledge and training drills, all taught in a fun-focused and safe environment. Towards the end of the course students are introduced and encouraged to start lead climbing.

The Super Hoppers class builds further on the Rock Hopper class, focusing on more advanced techniques, with a strong focus on personal safety, and rope management skills. This class teaches lead climbing/belaying, abseiling and bouldering.  This is a fast-paced and challenging course, so they recommend at least one term completed in Rock Hoppers before graduating to Super Hoppers.
