Mother’s Day is once again around the corner and provides an annual opportunity for children and husbands to show mothers all around the globe their appreciation of the women in their lives.

For Gails of Tamahere, Mother’s Day represents a time where the café can provide those looking for a comforting and tranquil atmosphere with quality food and coffee what they need.

“Mother’s Day is always an important date on the calendar. The tradition of a great breakfast or lunch is something which we at Gails of Tamahere want to uphold. That’s why our café is the place to be this year” says Gail Jones, owner of Gails of Tamahere.

Gail and her team are offering a buffet breakfast from 8.30am-11am (drinks extra) at $26.50 per person, and lunch from 11.30am-2.30pm (drinks extra) at $55.00 per person on Mother’s Day. Children are half price for both options as well. The buffet options are perfect for those looking to have a quality meal, as is tradition in New Zealand.

Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, and became a nationally recognised holiday in USA in 1914. In New Zealand, it is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. A recognised tradition of the day in New Zealand is that mothers will be presented with breakfast in bed by family members.

“Breakfast in bed is a great tradition, but for those who want to really treat their mum to a meal out, we have that option. Our grounds are beautiful, so after breakfast our visitors can have a walk around the gardens and take in the views” says Gail.
