The Papanui-Innes Ward Community Pride Garden Awards celebrated its 27th year of Community Pride Garden Awards earlier this week at the Christchurch North Methodist Church in Papanui.
On Monday, the awards which are a Christchurch City Council initiative and have been a collaboration between the Community Boards and the Christchurch Beautifying Association since 1997, were given out to both residents and businesses who have outstanding gardens and streetscapes.
The aim of the awards is to encourage civic garden pride and to acknowledge those who have contributed to maintaining the image of Christchurch as the Garden City, by beautifying their street and gardens.
This year, the Papanui-Innes ward had 99 nominated gardens and of the 99 nominated 56 came to the event hosted by the Papanui-Innes Community Board to celebrate and receive their award publically.
The judging of the gardens took place between 15-29 January 2017.
