When buying a new home your buying into more than just a house, you are also buying into a neighbourhood. To help out with your neighbourhood evaluation, check out this checklist from Century 21 Gold to decide on which neighbourhood would be right for you.
Firstly, before you have to ask yourself where do you want to live? Do you want to be near family, school, work, friends, or somewhere in between? It’s all about location, location, location!
“If you are moving into a new area, we suggest visiting the new area multiple times at different times of the day to get a feel for it, since that may determine your experience while living there,” says Derryn Mayne from Century 21 Gold.
Schools
Got kids? One of the first thing to check is the schools in the local area. Check to see how far away the schools are, and how your children will be getting there.
Major Roads
Take a drive around to locate the closest major motorways and busy main roads. “If busy roads are close, they may increase noise level around your home or become a cause of apprehension for those with small children and pets,” advises Derryn.
Transportation
If you can’t depend on a car to get you around, make sure to take a look at the local public transportation options. Find out if the local area will have something that will work for you.
Shopping Centres
“Find out how close you are to shopping centres so you can evaluate how long it will take to run errands on a normal day,” adds Derryn.
Recreational Centres
What do you do to relax and have fun? Whatever it is, make sure there’s something within a reasonable distance. “Look at gyms, parks, fitness centres, swimming pools, dance studios, or anything else that could entertain you and your family,” says Derryn.
