Thompson Memorials is a third generation family run business that established as a monumental mason business back in 1940. The business was relocated to the family residence in 1955, adjacent to Waikumete Cemetery. Over the course of time, the business outgrew the small workshop, and in 1977 land was purchased across the road, at 4105 Great North Road, and a large showroom and workshop was constructed. Further growth in business resulted in the need for even more space, and in 1990 a large extension was carried out to accommodate the extra expansion of the business. The present manager, Graham Thompson, commenced his employment with the company as an apprentice in 1976.

All of this means they have a long history and a wealth of industry knowledge, and are able to carry out any aspect relating to the entire monumental-headstone industry. From new memorials, renovations, additional inscriptions, granite and bronze plaques, to custom made memorials, larger full grave constructions and large scale restoration work their long serving management and staff are all extremely well trained and qualified to carry out any monument or memorial task, no matter how big or small.
