One step onto a site at Civtec and the feeling is one of efficiency. The way in which Civtec staff operate around sites can be described as having an air of calm urgency – there is a need to get the job done right but it is never rushed.

Civtec are based in Te Rapa, Hamilton, but can be found anywhere within the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region. On my visit, a duo was working in a local site at Lancaster Street. The team were more than inviting of visitors onto the site and went about their work in a meticulous manner. The job at hand was fibre installation and the pair of staff there had already worked out the best way to get the job done and were getting stuck in.

It is clear communication is no issue at Civtec sites. The team at Civtec work seamlessly in duos, trios or teams of multiple workers with constant contact resulting in a job done right the first time. The result of this is a Civtec family where each member of the business sees each other as close as brothers.

A day in the life of a Civtec worker involves many duties. Some are on sites as long as 500m in length, needing to drill underground to connect cables from one end of the site to the other. Some are working in pairs installing fibre to houses in need. It is a diverse workplace but one which the team thrive in – no two days are the same.

The beauty of an environment like the one at Civtec is the ability to gain experience and learn. Experienced members of the team will have learned the trade and be able to operate the heavy machinery which is used daily. The use of innovative tools such as a Grundomat is what makes getting their hands dirty something Civtec workers relish. Some have achieved their qualifications in being able to operate diggers and transporters. If the team at Civtec are yet to achieve these qualifications, a few years in the trade will see them learn the ropes quickly.

One day on the job at a business like Civtec is not only full of learning, it is an environment which all involved enjoy. The satisfaction of finishing a job the first time and leaving a site cleaner than it was before the work was started is something the team pride themselves on. Civtec have received several positive reviews affirming this fact.

The team at Civtec are experts in directional drilling, underground thrusting, civil engineering works and utilities.  Civtec possesses a fleet of equipment, including four directional drills of varying sizes, from recognised manufacturers such as Ditch Witch and Vermeer.
