This year it’s all about the boots in Hamilton and they’re not just for show either. Mavis & Mick are right at home in Fieldays 2017, plonked amongst the hustle and bustle of the brand new Town & Country Marquee.

Known for their high grade European leather shoes, most might look past such sophisticated style at the rural mega expo, but Mikala Walshe, one half of Mavis & Mick, is here to remind farmers they can have it both ways.

“We have boots to take from the paddock to the city, there’s no reason you can’t work in style,” says Mikala, zipping back and forth tending to curious customers as they filter through her corner site. Along the walls are a variety of boots staked in all sorts of shapes and sizes with a striking lime green couch sat right in the middle.

It is unmistakably different compared to the surrounding stalls, a beacon to Fieldays travellers telling them they can work hard and work stylish. Perhaps a perfect home in this year’s latest spot, the Town & Country Marquee which Mikala says is a great location.

“It’s our third year at Fieldays but it is good being in this new space. It seems to have a lot of traction and I’ve had lots of people coming back,” says Mikala.

The annual giant that graces Mystery Creek once a year also serves as a valuable networking hub with 1,010 exhibitors showcasing the best that farming New Zealand has to offer. Based in Cambridge and Waihi, Mavis & Mick appreciate this more than most.

“Fieldays is so much about meetings new clients, and talking to new customers about who we are. I’ve been able to link with people from Hawkes Bay, Taranaki and the South Island,” says Mikala.

With two more days to come it is not too late to go see why Mavis & Mick are turning heads at Fieldays 2017.
