Statistics reveal that some people interested in gaining the perfect white smile through cosmetic whitening are hesitant to trust laser teeth whitening due to the apparent risks attached.

Risks such as tooth sensitivity, damage to the roots of teeth, worn teeth enamel, increased gum problems and other dental complications highlight some of the fears people have that can often deter them from undergoing laser teeth whitening.

Senior Teeth Whitening Consultant and owner of The White Smile Company, Terri Logan, has all the answers to ensure that your teeth are well looked after during the process.

Tooth sensitivity is usually the leading factor that deters people from getting laser teeth whitening. However, with The White Smile Company there is little to no risk of experiencing severe tooth sensitivity.

“It is way more common to have little to no tooth sensitivity when receiving laser teeth whitening,” explains Terri.

“The risk of having tooth sensitivity often comes from people having receeding gums and wear and tear on the tips of teeth from grinding which I make sure is well covered up with all clients. Some clients may experience a few twinges for the first day but I guarantee by the next day those twinges will be gone and the results always outweigh any sensitivity,” Terri adds.

Another common misconception is the risk of laser teeth whitening causing structural  damage to your teeth. However, this is simply not true as laser teeth whiteninig cannot damage your teeth in any way whatsoever.

“The whitening gel that we use for laser treatments is a compound of water and oxygen which oxidieses in your mouth and in turn opens the pores in your teeth to remove the stains,” explains Terri.

It is a fact that properties in acidic food and drink such as fizzy drink and citric fruits are much more harmful to the teeth whereas cosmetic laser whitening shows no discovered correlation to root or gum damage at all and is scientifically designed to preserve your teeth.

Old fashioned whiteners and whitening solutions have often proved to be harmful for teeth enamel due to their gritty and abrasive nature. However, laser whitening is non-abrasive and non-acidic meaning it will not wear down your enamel.

“All the products used while receiving laser whitening are non-acidic, non-alkaline with neutral pH levels, they are manufactured to have a similar pH to the salive in your mouth and so are completely safe for your teeth.” Terri says.

The final factor many people perceive as a risk of receiving laser teeth whitening is the risk of having dental complications before the treatment or further developing them. However, Terri states this is not a risk to worry about.

“If the treatments are done carelessly, then yes, these treatments may irritate gums and complicate dental problems that people may have. However, when applied by a professional there is no risk of any dental complications occuring. The gel that we use actually has  anti-bacterial agents that can help reduce the bacteria that causes gum disease.”

Terri is also very passionate about both bringing awareness to people who may have problems such as gum disease and educating her clients about the importance of preventatives and seeking good dental hygiene and treatments.
