Hamilton East Ward city council election candidate Chris Rollitt, pictured, has a passion for all things Hamilton.

Focusing on the needs of the community, Chris wants to guarantee that the community voice and needs are listened to in council.

“I am committed to making sure our needs as a community are met by our city and that our community voice is heard,” says Chris Rollitt.

Chris wants to ensure the Hamilton City Council will honour its commitment to the community, “follow through on the promises of schools, playgrounds and parks to ensure our community has the very things that make a community vibrant,’’ comments Chris.

Speaking about the balance of priorities for Hamilton: “So many people herald the river as a huge city asset yet we still patiently wait for the Ferrybank project to even commence. The Te Awa cycleway is being extended from Horotiu to Ngaruawahia, complete with new pedestrian suspension bridge, yet we cannot even fix the closed sections of river pathway in Hamilton City,” adds Chris

“We seem to get lost or distracted by a new central city theatre, and its shiny promises and forget about the promises that have been made in the past and not honoured,” says Chris.

Chris Rollitt has been in business in Hamilton since 1995 and is well known as the former owner of the Cook Restaurant in Hamilton East which has been sold. Some of is successful accomplishments has included the establishment of the Hamilton East Community Trust.

“The Hamilton East Community Trust has been continually advocating for Hamilton East. The recognition of our heritage and community value in Hamilton such as getting the Steele Park Playground updated, Hamilton Gardens underpass and the Heritage Day Festival,” comments Chris.

Other accomplishments include organising the Bridge to Bridge Water Ski Classic 2010 – 2012 and the Twin Rivers event 2010 – 2013, sponsoring Steele Park Touch, being on the Board of Trustees for Marian Catholic School and being the former Chair of the Hamilton East Village Business Association.

In the future Chris will seek to be an elected representative of Hamilton City Council and providing strong, capable and balanced leadership.
