Truck crashes into sea on Kaikoura coast

At about 3.55am on 20/12/07 a truck and trailer unit has gone off the road into the sea just south of Kaikoura. 

The driver was trapped in the cab but the cab was not in the water. 

He was freed after a short period of time and suffered moderate injuries.

He has been admitted to Kaikoura hospital.

The truck was carrying frozen chickens.

The highway is open.

It is not yet been established what caused the crash
