The world is becoming increasingly environmentally friendly, which is mostly a good thing. However, there are some practices which are actually counter productive, and one of them is the current trend of putting products in wooden boxes and calling it ‘eco’. In fact, it is probably the least eco thing you could do.

What happens to those wooden boxes when they arrive? How do you get rid of them? Sustainability is about only using resources if you absolutely must and minimising what you need to take. Give Plants’ packaging is 68% recycled and the rest is from sustainable farmed trees. As they say, “We hate having to use 32% sustainably milled timber, but our packaging is designed to be recycled. We like the idea that the next lot of boxes we order are potentially made up of recycled material that contains our last lot of boxes.

Give Plants have designed their own corrugated cardboard boxes, which come in two sizes, and are fully recyclable. They’re designed to protect the plant during delivery, by locking the plant in place.  They also look smart when they’re delivered.  The boxes open easily and have slots inside to allow a greeting card to be added without the need to use glue or extra packaging.

Each plant is placed inside a plastic bag that is secured to prevent soil loss, and to retain the moisture that the plant needs. Give Plants ask that you dispose of these bags carefully in the recycling. Large size plants are then tucked into handy, drawstring tote bags.  Finally, both plants are secured into their boxes for safe delivery.

Next time you buy a gift ask yourself is this really eco-friendly or just a green wash, which you don’t need to accept any more. For more information on corporate gifts, indoor pot plants and online plants please go to http://www.giveplants.co.nz .
