VOYA New Zealand are excited to be able to offer a series of cancer-safe training programs for Spa’s and massage therapists that will allow them to confidently offer cancer clients an experiential luxury Spa treatment and massage.

We are delighted to be partnering with Christine Clinton Cancer Care™, who is a leading expert and educator in developing cancer safe treatments for cancer clients.  The course will emphasise the importance of experiential learning and having hands-on practice on clients who are going though cancer treatment and, or are in remission.

“With New Zealand having one of the highest cancer rates in the world, it is vitally important for therapists to be confident so they can support clients going through cancer within the treatment room,” says Karen Hind, Managing Director of VOYA New Zealand.

Christine Clinton, who will be tutoring the courses, is a leading expert in the areas of cancer safe treatments.   Christine has 28 years of extensive experience, as a licensed massage and Skin Care Therapist, skilled in Therapeutic Massage, Oncology Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, Reflexology, Lymphatic Drainage, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Maternity and Infant Massage.  She maintains her own clinic in Philadelphia and is a leading world renowned educator and expert in the development of Oncology Massage and cancer safe treatments.

Therapists who participate in this program will be taught about circumventing and dealing with symptoms of cancer, the effects of chemotherapy, and how to give a cancer patient a meaningful and memorable experience despite the many difficulties the client encounters when faced with cancer and chemotherapy.

The program is an intensive 8 hours for 3 days, where the therapists will complete 7 modules and 10 case studies.  They will learn about Cancer, what it is, how it is treated and Drug interaction and contraindications, facial and massage protocols, wellness and prevention.  There will be a final evaluation for certification and upon completion of this the therapist will receive a certificate and cancer safe pin to wear on their uniform.  The first course is scheduled to begin on October 23rd.  in Auckland and October 30th in Dunedin.   VOYA NZ is accepting registrations now, with an early bird special of $1,200 (GST incl), until 10th September, after that the course costs will be $1,350.

“At VOYA New Zealand, we strive to give back wherever possible. We are firm believers in bringing the Cancer Safe treatments to the local community.  In our training programs, we will always work with models from local hospices and cancer support groups as our guests on training days,” says Karen.

“Many spa’s and massage therapists turn away cancer patients due to lack of knowledge and confidence when dealing with the symptoms of cancer, and the effects of chemotherapy. VOYA is the first skincare brand in the world to gain the Cancer for Wellness Accreditation.”

VOYA is the first company in the world to become a certified-organic seaweed based skincare brand that utilizes the myriad of health benefits provided by seaweed in many of its products.

VOYA skincare can be purchased online, and supplies luxury spas throughout New Zealand, Australia and the world.

Karen says that once trained, VOYA asks each spa or therapist who has gone through this training program to provide one free treatment per month to someone who is going through cancer treatment or survivorship.

“Following on from the successes of these courses in New Zealand, we will be offering them to Australian Spa’s and Therapists next year.”
