For Comprehensive Investigation of Asbestos Risks Contact Meth Testing NZ
Meth Testing New Zealand has launched a new company – Asbestos Testing New Zealand which provides asbestos surveying in partnership with Precise Consulting and Laboratory. The company does three main types of testing or surveying -management, refurbishment and demolition and each are designed for a specific purpose.
Precise Laboratories have IANZ Accredited laboratories in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. They can service Palmerston North. Their initial assessment includes 1.5 hours onsite inspection and 1 hour drive time or 50km travel radius from local office whichever comes first. Site inspection is carried out by technicians, and if materials are believed to be asbestos, samples are taken and clients provided with a quote to test the samples. The initial assessment costs $450 plus GST and a sample analysis costs $55 plus GST per sample.
Once an inspection has been completed clients are provided with a full management report detailing where asbestos has been located and what needs to be done to handle risks. This report is sent out within 48 hours.
The Asbestos Refurbishment Survey locates all asbestos in the property before renovation works have started. The sampling method is intrusive as asbestos can be hiding in hard to get to areas. The Asbestos Demolition Survey locates all asbestos in the property before demolition of the property has started.
Large amounts of ACM were used for a wide range of construction purposes in new and refurbished buildings until 2000. This means there are many buildings in New Zealand that contain asbestos or ACM. If the ACM is in good condition, and unlikely to be disturbed, it may not present a significant risk. However, if the ACM is in poor condition, disturbed or damaged, asbestos fibres are released into the air. If breathed in, these fibres can cause serious lung diseases, including cancers.
Workers who disturb the fabric of buildings during maintenance, refurbishment, repair, installation and related activities are exposed to asbestos every time they unknowingly work on ACM, or carry out work without assessing and managing the risks. WorkSafe New Zealand has prepared these guidelines for technicians who identify the presence of asbestos or asbestos-containing material (known as asbestos surveyors). Asbestos Testing New Zealand have training, qualifications, knowledge, experience and ability to sample and identify asbestos, have knowledge of the tasks required and the risks the work will involve, demonstrate independence and use a quality management system.
