Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) training from Evolve Training teaches guidelines, skills and requirements set out by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) for work activities on Level 1 Roads.

The NZ Transport Agency’s Code of practice for temporary traffic management (CoPTTM) describes best practice for the safe and efficient management and operation of temporary traffic management (TTM) on all roads in New Zealand. Its application applies to any activity that varies the normal conditions of any road and applies to the total road reserve. The mission of the NZ Transport Agency is to be a world leader in road safety by maintaining consistent and high levels of TTM on all the nation’s roads.

This course is effective for anybody who has at least one-month experience as a TC and wishes to carry out TTM duties on state highways or local roads. Workers with Level 1 STMS are responsible for the safe installation and operation of TTM at worksites.

Staff in a supervisory or planning role who need a more in depth understanding of CoPTTM, like film location managers, worksite foremen and site engineers will find Evolve Training’s course beneficial. The course is spread across two days and typically from 9 am to 5 pm.  Users can also book after hours’ and night shift courses.

The course covers in depth understanding of the Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management. The topics are authorities of an STMS, responsibilities, legal requirements, traffic management plan (TMP) design, equipment and signs, working with the Road Controlling Authority (RCA), audit level 1 worksites, static and mobile operations and understanding and completing correct documentation.

Following the course there are five open book tests. It includes three sections which include Introduction and General; Equipment; Static Operations; Mobile Operations and TMP Design. In order to pass users must get an average of 60% over all four tests to pass the course.

The course is predominantly classroom based with optional additional practical exercises. Computers are provided to all attendees. Attendees are taught to navigate CoPTTM to find answers to tests. This is an extremely useful tool as it empowers employees to find solutions to problems in the field and facilitates on-going learning. Evolve Training has a maximum class size of 15 to ensure all learners get the quality attention and guidance they need.

Successful participants will be issued with a temporary I.D. card as evidence until the NZTA STMS Certificate and I.D. card arrives which is valid for three years from the date of the course. Evolve Training Academy offer additional NZQA unit standards which assess competency and are uploaded to your NZQA record of learning.
