Success For Taekwon-Do At Awards

The sport of ITF Taekwon-Do has been recognised once again for excelling in the Papakura Community and in the Counties Manukau Region.

At the recent Papakura Sports Awards Taekwon-Do and in particular the coaching and influence of the PaulM Papakura Taekwon-Do club were to the fore in a wide variety of categories.

The Counties Manukau Taekwon-Do team won Team of the Year (Recognising its achievements at the Oceania Champs and also nationally); The Counties Manukau Junior Female Black Belt Team (Caitlin Hakeagatoa, Ashley Porter, Simran Kumar, Jordyn Tuhiwai and Riana Brown) won the Papakura Junior Team of the Year.

The awards didn’t stop at the team events with Melissa Bray (nee Timperley) winning the Papakura Sports Woman of the Year gaining a silver and a bronze at the world championships in Ireland and two gold and one silver at the national champs

Seventh Dan Black Belt, Steve Pellow was recognised for his service to sport and Layne George was a  finalist in Junior Sports Woman of the Year while Liam Reynolds was a finalist in the Junior Sports Man of the Year. 

There are more chances for Taekwon-Do to be recognised even further with the Counties Manukau Sports awards to be held Sunday December 2nd and a large number of categories featuring the sport.

Three out of the five finalists for the Masters Athlete of the Year compete at the Paul M Taekwon-Do Club;   Joseph George, Nicola Palin and Wedaad Waja while Paul Mc Phail himself is a finalist in the Referee/Official of the year.

Taekwon-Do features strongly in the teams event nominations with the Counties Manukau Junior Female Black Belt Team a finalist along with the Counties Manukau senior team and the Paul M Taekwon-Do Club team.

Melissa Bray is once again a nomination in the Sportswoman of the Year category.
