Award-winning aerial tourism company Vanuatu Helicopters truly value their exceptionally diligent employees. Office Manager Florence Lengkon is a cherished member of the team who began her journey with Vanuatu Helicopters in 2006, initially hired to put life jackets on passengers.

Over 12 years, Flo has grown professionally and accomplished a lot at Vanuatu Helicopters. She is the boss in the office with huge responsibilities on her shoulders as well as being a solo mother of three children.

Self-taught in Xero accounting software, expert in dealing with government departments, and attentive to the safety of pilots & passengers, Flo is the jack of all trades. She has even completed a six-week tourism scholarship in Hawaii last year to further her knowledge in the industry.

“Flo is always courteous and chats to everyone – she has gone above and beyond in her role as office manager,” says Andy Martin, Ground and Flight Operations Manager for Vanuatu Helicopters. “She is one of my best friends and we have shared some incredible experiences together and millions of laughs.”

In 2016, a tragic incident occurred which made Flo a victim of kidnapping and assault. She was subjected to brutal beatings from public transport drivers at the wharf after some men read her comment on Facebook expressing her disappointment with the unprofessional behaviour of local taxi and bus drivers.

The traumatising experience did not crush Flo’s spirit as she was brave enough to share her story with the media. Following this incident, Vanuatu’s biggest march against domestic violence ensued on the streets of Port Vila which made international headlines.

Flo was even awarded a Certificate of Courage for 2018 by the United States of America. The life-changing experience has inspired her to commence her very own NGO to support victims of violence.

The team at Vanuatu Helicopters is extremely proud of Flo’s journey as they bid her farewell with a promise to support her endeavours in the future.

“She will be missed a lot from Vanuatu Helicopters and extremely hard to replace. We support her decision 100% and will continue to work closely with her in the future,” says Andy.

Flo will be kickstarting her initiative with a GoFundMe page to raise funds for essential resources.
