Man drowns swimming in river

Police advise that they have attended a drowning incident at Merrilands Domain, New Plymouth. 

Where a 36 year old male was swimming in the Waiwhakaiho River with a group of people who had travelled up from Porirua. 

After swimming for some thirty minutes this person become seperated from the larger group. 

Approx 55 mintues later his body was recovered down stream from where he was last seen by helicopter.
