With 4 Gold Medals, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze, Rangi Ruru is once again the top girls’ school in the South Island for rowing.

The South Island Rowing Championships, held this weekend at Lake Ruataniwha, is the last regatta before the Maadi cup at Lake Karapiro on the 25th - 30th March, and Rowing Manager, Ella Vink, says the plan is still about focusing on doing the very best at Maadi.

“The crews can be pleased with their achievements this weekend and should pat themselves on the back for their efforts. The coaches, parents and management are in awe of them,” she says.

Rowing coach Mark Cotham agrees, saying the next couple of weeks are an exciting time where the girl’s focus will be on finding more speed in their racing combinations as the training intensifies.

“We feel privileged to work with such a fantastic group of driven and highly motivated young women. They continuously push themselves creating an atmosphere of fun and hard work,” he says.

March 31 is a standby day should there be additional time needed for Maadi because of weather cancellations.
