Keeping your dog or puppy mentally stimulated is just as important as keeping them physically fit, according to Hamilton’s leading boarding kennels and cattery Longtail Pet Motel.

Mental stimulation enriches our dogs’ lives by alleviating boredom and it can also decrease the possibility of your dogs developing behavioural issues such as excessive chewing or barking.

Looking for some ways to help tire out your dog and keep them busy? If so instead of just adding more physical exercise to your dog’s routine try adding more mental stimulation into their routine.

One way to get started on giving your dog mental stimulation is to get your dog a puzzle toy. Puzzle toys area a great and easy way to keep your dog busy and amused. Interactive toys like puzzles will help to keep your dog focused on a activity and will give your dog a chance to use some of their innate problem solving abilities.

Teaching your dog a new trick is also fantastic for mental stimulation. Not only does it strengthen the unique bond between dog and owner it can be especially helpful with impulse control in shy or nervous dogs.

Playdates are not only for kids! If your friend has a puppy or dog try arranging a playdate with them. If your dog is well socialized and feels comfortable playing with other dogs a regular play date is a great option for getting them to socialize and get all the exercise they need safely.

By keeping your dog mentally stimulated you can help boost their confidence and tire them out mentally, afterall a bored dog is a destructive dog.
