New Zealand’s leading engineering company and compressed natural gas (CNG) specialists, Tauranga based Oasis Engineering attended the Waste Expo in Las Vegas earlier this month.

The WasteExpo is North America’s largest solid waste, recycling and organics industry event. The expo was held from 06 - 09 May 2019 at Las Vegas Convention Center, in Las Vegas, USA

Ricky Lee, Vice President of Business Development USA and Canada, commented on the large scale of the exhibition and reflects on the show’s main areas of focus – “The show was mainly focused on trash collection, processing and handling of waste,” he says.

Ricky also mentioned the presence of bio-gas companies attending the expo and states them as “relatively new players in the market” due to the newness of this industry.

A company renowned for its innovation, product development and customisation, Oasis Engineering has been a staple in the global Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) industry. Ricky Lee reflected on the initiative of using CNG, now being adopted by many companies – “The good thing to see was that there are a lot of companies that are using CNG to power their refuse trucks.”

‘’The trend of using CNG is set to increase in the coming years, especially for the companies owning private fleet fuelling stations such as Waste Management,” adds Ricky.

Though diesel and petrol are still used by a few companies that do not have their own private
stations, this seems to be the case with companies with small fleets that are not too concerned with saving money on fuel. ‘’With the likes of waste management they can capture their own bio gas from landfill sites, compress it and use this to power their fleet,” comments Ricky.

This year’s Waste Expo focused on new and exciting ways for event attendees to expand their waste, recycling and industry knowledge. The expo featured more than 600 exhibitors and welcomed more than 14,000 event attendees.

“I managed to meet up with a few of our key customers at the show and they were also interested in trying to break into the RNG (renewable natural gas) and bio gas side of things as well,” adds Ricky.
