GPSOS launched its new products in its home town of Whanganui last Wednesday night.  Over 70 people were in attendance, including local MP Harete Hipango, the Mayor, MSD and many of the local community organisations including Alzheimers New Zealand and IDEA services that already do so much good in the community.

In one of the biggest advancements in personal security and health monitoring technology in years, remote monitoring and emergency communications technology company GPSOS announced its revolutionary new devices – the GP7.0 watch and GP1000 pendant - a breakthrough in the world of personal security and healthcare monitoring for New Zealand.

The watch and pendant are significantly different from the existing standard medical alarms and are able to provide two way communication, the person’s location within 10 meters, fall detection and many more features.  These features are available to you whether you are at work, home or play.

To support the product GPSOS provides specialised 24/7 monitoring services to ensure that if there is a problem, users simply press the button to call for help and the GPS locator will allow GPSOS’s team to direct emergency services or loved ones to locate them quickly and easily.

Having worked in the security industry for more than 40 years, CEO and Founder of GPSOS Mark Simmonds (Pictured) is no stranger to new technology.  Having brought home detention to New Zealand, he worked with the Ministry of Justice and other key government agencies to ensure prisoners could serve sentences in their homes.

“Almost every week we hear on the news that an Alzheimer’s sufferer has gone missing. This can be heartbreaking for family, and it’s important to find the vulnerable person as quickly as possible, as they are often just wearing pyjamas in the coldest of temperatures.”  Mark said.

Mark recounts the story of the father of a friend of his, who despite wearing a standard medical pendant was unable to activate it when he suffered a stroke, and subsequently never made a full recovery.

“I was thinking there has to be a better way - and this idea grew from that.” Mark said

Initial attempts to source the product he envisioned were unsuccessful, leaving only one option remaining: to design and create the technology himself.  And after three years of working alongside leading technology designers in the USA, China and Germany, the results speak for themselves.

“A huge amount of work went into the design of the watch and pendant devices to create excellence,” Mark says.  “We do more than just monitor technology, we provide a welfare checking system and GPSOS is about providing care to people beyond the product and technology.”

However, he soon realised this technology could be used to benefit Kiwis all over the country, improving quality of life for those unwilling to venture out alone due to health or safety reasons.

The capabilities of the GPSOS watch include monitoring blood pressure, heartbeat and blood oxygen levels.  An alert is sent to the monitoring centre whenever any of these falls outside the person’s normal range.

“As we age, there are many things that we give up. One of those things doesn’t have to be your freedom. You can count on GPSOS to be the lifeline to your loved ones.”
