A comparative pricing study of the largest grocery retailers in New Zealand has found that PAK’nSAVE stores consistently have the lowest prices. The study, carried out by grocery comparison website FoodMe, compared the online prices of a representative mix of products including flour, eggs, salmon, bacon, cereals, honey, water, coffee and a vegetarian dish.

Five PAK’nSAVE stores had the lowest prices with only minor pricing differences nationwide.

On the other hand, FoodMe’s study found that these five New World stores were the most expensive:

  • New World Turangi
  • New World Whangamata
  • New World Otaki
  • New World Merrilands
  • New World Metro Auckland

Henrik Johansson, the CEO of FoodMe, says the study reinforces the importance of comparing grocery prices across all retailers before you buy:

“Your favourite supermarket might not be doing you any favours at all. It could actually be costing you thousands of dollars every year. FoodMe’s mission is to make it easy for shoppers to monitor prices at a range of retailers and see where the biggest savings are.”
