Raised in the heart of Manawatu, Liz Davis has spent much of her life involved in the farming industry. “I was raised on a dairy farm, helped with milking cows, feeding out, moving stock and feeding calves,” says Liz Davis, Operations Manager at the leading Taupo-based fertilizer company, Uptake.

While attending Otago University, Liz worked in shearing sheds around the Manawatu as a shed hand/rousie and cook during the summer holidays. She also worked on a sheep and beef farm with her husband, John Davis, in Taihape.

As the operations manager at Uptake, Liz’s role is to efficiently implement the benchmarking process and support bringing the science to the farmers across New Zealand. “The specific duties include soil testing, supporting the Uptake team, understanding agri-nutrient management trends and best practices locally and internationally,” comments Liz.

Coming to the aid of farmers and taking on new issues in the farming industry are just a few of Liz’s favourite parts of her job.  “I really like helping farmers with meeting some of the biggest changes and challenges in agriculture,” adds Liz.

As the industry leader in environmentally-friendly fertiliser production, Uptake are the leading specialists in soil, plant and animal health nutrition. “Uptake’s efficient nutrient use is able to deliver sustainable productivity and returns to the farmer. The Uptake products save on fertiliser costs,” advises Liz.

Known for their sustainable philosophy, Uptake are on a mission to improve the quality of farm soil and everything it produces and sustains. “Uptake can help with better environmental action by using less fertiliser. Farmers are experiencing some serious threats. Farmers are able to meet environmental concerns and remain profitable with precision agriculture” says Liz

“After 70 years of applying Phosphate to New Zealand soils they are no longer deficient in New Zealand. It is a waste of money to continue to add more nutrients that are leached away. The right testing finds the variables in the paddocks,” advises Liz.

Uptake knows that every farm and farmer are different meaning that there is no one size fits all option.  Uptake has developed services, systems and products that can meet customers’ unique requirements. “The correct amount of major nutrients and micronutrients are important for soil, plant and animal health,” comments Liz.

About Uptake

Uptake’s mission, as described by owner John Davis, is simple: quality over quantity. He firmly believes that the “more is better” philosophy is made redundant in the light of proven results; good nutrition passing from the soil, to the plants it grows, to the animals the plants feed. The benefits pass to the farmers themselves, and of course, to the consumers they supply.
