There are a number of exciting family-centred events and activities in store for the Waikato Museum over the months of October and November 2019. Below are five events/activities recommended by the award-winning Argent Motor Lodge – Hamilton’s leading accommodation provider on TripAdvisor:
Storytelling in the Gallery
On the 17th October and 21st November from 10.30am-11.00am, attend a storytelling session in the gallery at the Waikato Museum for children and their families. Supported by Hamilton City Libraries, this separate two day event is free of charge and will consist of a variety of traditional and contemporary stories. A great, imaginative way to spend a morning at the museum!
Bat Tour at the Museum and Hammond Park
Get the chance to hear and see bats in their natural habitat on the 25th October 2019 and the 8th November 2019 from 6.30pm-8.30pm. Commencing with an informative session at the Waikato Museum, followed by bat spotting at Hammond Park, this is an entertaining event for all ages. Tickets cost just $10 for children (must be at least five years of age to attend) and $20 for adults, or $50 for a family pass (two adults, two children).

Diwali Event
Experience Bharathanatiyam (traditional Indian dance) and the story behind the celebration of Diwali from 11am-3pm on the 27th October 2019. This free event also includes the opportunity to create a Diya (lamp), which you can take home to welcome goodwill to your family. What better way to expand your knowledge on the Indian culture!
Māori Arts and Crafts
Join Marei Kura Creations at the Waikato Museum on 1 November 2019 from 12pm-3pm to learn about flax weaving and make your own puti puti (flax flower) to take home. This free activity is for all ages and provides a space to learn one of the many Māori arts and crafts.
Musical Feast
Hear top young musicians from the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Waikato as they share their talent in the gallery at the museum. Taking place from 12pm-1pm on the 14 November 2019, this free event will bless your ears with the sound of music.
