Police remind boaties to be properly equipped

 Since Boxing Day the Northern Police Communications Centre has received a large number of calls in relation to water rescues.

These have predominantly involved pleasure boats breaking down or taking on water. 

Police would like to remind all boat owners to thoroughly check their craft before venturing out.

A large number of the water rescues have occurred because of poor maintenance of pleasure craft since last summer. 

All boaties should have life jackets, flares, communications and other equipment such as fire extinguishers on board.
