Aggravated robbery of Wellington pharmacy

WELLINGTON CITY

Police are appealing for witnesses and information concerning an Aggravated Robbery that occurred at about 10:30am on Saturday 5th January 2008 at the Alexander Pharmacy on Willis Street, just south of the intersection with Dixon Street.

Detective Sergeant Damian Murphy said 'At about 10:30am, a male entered the pharmacy and confronted the two female employees. The male had his face covered by material and he was in possession of a black handgun'.

'The male demanded drugs and money and after obtaining both, he shut the terrified female workers in the pharmacy office'.

'The male then left the pharmacy on foot and was last seen running South up Willis Street, towards Ghuznee Street'.

Detective Sergeant Murphy said 'The two employees rightly complied with the offenders instructions and although they were shaken by the ordeal, they are assisting Police with the investigation'.

The offender is described as;
Caucasian
Six feet or under
Thin to medium build
Wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and sneakers
Carrying a predominantly black backpack with red and white or grey sections. 

Members of the public were around when the robbery happened and police want to speak to anyone who has information that may assist the enquiry or who may have seen the male described above.
