Pair rescued from blow-up toy boat
At around 5 pm yesterday, Police received reports of two people being blown out to sea in a small dinghy, from Houghton Bay, Wellington.
Maritime police - police launch Lady Elizabeth III were called to attend.
Maritime police arrived to find two people in a blow-up toy boat 600 metres from shore. They were being blown out to sea rapidly and would not have made it back to shore without help.
'These two individuals did nothing right, They had no lifejackets, no signalling devices, they were sitting in a small toy boat which is completely unsuitable for the conditions. Had witnesses not called police these two may well have perished.'
They will be charged for breaching harbour safety bylaws.
