National’s Agriculture spokesman David Carter is calling on Labour to immediately release a report into the controversial public access proposal.

Rural Affairs Minister Damien O’Connor has confirmed that he has received the report from the Walking Access Consultation Panel, but won’t release it until what he says is an ‘appropriate’ time.

“The appropriate time is now,” says Mr Carter.

“Maybe the reason he’s holding off on releasing the report is because it’s likely to be a massive backdown on the Prime Minister’s initial wishes.

“The report needs to be released immediately.

“This saga has already caused enough angst and anger amongst farmers. It is time they had the relief of knowing that the Walking Access Consultation Panel has arrived at the only common sense position on this issue.

“Mr O’Connor has already proved to be an incompetent Minister with Corrections. This is his chance not to repeat the same mistakes in another portfolio.”
