Kindy Cottage Celebrate 20 Years of North Shore Childcare

This year, North Shore childcare centre Kindy Cottage will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Located in Windsor Park, just behind Rangitoto College, Kindy Cottage is attended by children aged from 5 months to 5 years of age.

Opening 2001, Kindy Cottage has seen thousands of children pass through and has established strong links with the local North Shore community.

“We are very excited to be celebrating two decades since Kindy Cottage first opened its doors”, says Kindy Cottage Director, Gail Menkin.

“From the start, it has always been our goal to create an environment which is an extension of the child’s home. We’ve always taken the time to get to know each child on a personal level so we can cater the learning experience to their needs”.

Over the years, the teachers at Kindy Cottage have built strong bonds with local families, often seeing multiple children from the same family come through.

“It has been a joy getting to know so many wonderful local families”, says Menkin.

With a child-centred approach to learning and a calming, unhurried environment, Kindy Cottage has always strived to give the next generation the best possible start in life.

“It’s a fantastic feeling knowing you’re sending children off into the world with an excellent footing. The kids who first walk through these doors in 2001 are now making their way through life as a young adult – it’s quite surreal!”.

Kindy Cottage features both a dedicated North Shore crèche for children under two and a play centre for older children. In line with their ethos of personalized learning and getting to know each individual child, Kindy Cottage keeps enrolments limited to ensure a low child to teacher ratio.

“We have one teacher for every three children in our nursery and one teacher for every eight children in our preschool”, explains Menkin. “This low child-teacher ratio is something that is very important to us. We believe it is one of the key reasons Kindy Cottage has become such a well-regarded North Shore daycare centre”.
