Fatal crash in Southland
At approx 2.10pm on Monday the 7th of January Police and emergency services were called to a single car crash on SH 6 approx 3 kms south of Garston.
A Green 2003 Holden Vectra Hatchback was noticed by a passing motorist off the road against a tree.
The 81 year old female driver was located in the vehicle along with her 6 year old granddaughter who had been traveling in the back seat.
The driver appears to have died at the crash scene. The girl was transported by air ambulance to the southland hospital in Invercargill and remains hospitalised with internal injuries.
The deceased driver was Mary Lindsay ROBB aged 81years of Waituna, Southland.
The cause of the crash is being investigated with the crash scene being closed for a short period of time during the afternoon whilst the car was removed.
No other vehicle appears to have been involved and all factors including any medical event that could have occurred prior to the incident will help crash investigators establish the cause.
Police would like to hear from any other motorists who may have been travelling in the area at the time and saw Mrs ROBB with her granddughter in her vehicle prior to the crash.
