The Wonder Drug, the lack of wonder and the question "Why?".

Australian Doctor Kylie Wagstaff from Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, led a study around a (Nobel Prize winning) 'wonder drug' and its effects on the Covid virus. Dr Wagstaff had made a significant breakthrough in 2012 by identifying the drug and its antiviral activity (with Professor David Jans) who also had researched the drug for a decade, with his Team). Dr Wagstaff's second breakthrough in 2020 would prove to be even more astounding, "We found that even a single dose could essentially remove all viral RNA by 48 hours and that even at 24 hours there was a really significant reduction in it," Dr Wagstaff said. One treatment had a 5000-fold reduction in virus at 48 h in cell culture. Furthermore she found that it acted as an inhibitor of the COVID-19 causative virus (SARS-CoV-2) in vitro.' The critics were quick to jump, namely the Australian Media & some in the Medical industry, as they questioned her research, Dr Wagstaff affirmed that the successful treatment was in the trialling phases, and her work was still 'individual cells, not yet in humans'. The most mind boggling aspect of it all, was the 'wonder drug' has already been accepted by W.H.O as an essential medicine and been in use for humans -for a span of 4 decades! Despite the unusual resistance from the First World Nations, Doctors from low income to middle income countries had already began prescribing the low risk medication to Covid patients and began seeing results. (eg notably in Phillipines, India etc). ________________________________________________ Meanwhile in the UK, Doctor Theresa Lawrie, (Research Consultant) had heard a discussion about this very same 'wonder drug' it sparked her interest and she began her own research. In her work for Evidence Based Consultancy, she specialises in meta-analysis, guide line development, research methodology, systematic review, guidelines and Cochrane reviews. Her portfolio includes systematic reviews for The World Health Organisation. Dr Lawrie conducted a Systematic Review of the 'wonder drugs' effect and safety for the treatment & prevention of Covid. "The Meta-analysis of 15 trials reduced death by 62%". "Reduction of Covid 19 infection by an average of 86%". Her research ( pre print) was met with deafening silence. The Media failing to take up the story and controversy ensued as efforts were made to stop crowd funding the research (by the crowdfunding site itself). Dr Lawrie was appalled by the resistance but remained undeterred, she pressed on with her team. The Peer Reviewed Study was completed and published in the American Journal of Therapeutics. Unfortunately, after posting the Systematic review, she continued to experience opposition in the form of suppression. Linkedin even removing the peer reviewed research from her profile. "There seems to be this massive campaign to suppress information on early treatments", Dr. Lawrie said, as she went on to describe her dealings with Social Media and the ongoing issues with their censorship amongst her peers. "When you have the social media bodies actually removing information done by people who are experts in their field... You really have to ask why? Why are the social media companies so intent on suppressing scientists trying to communicate information on medicines?". ________________________________________________ The 'Wonder Drugs' Origin. 'Professor Satoshi Ōmura discovered and successfully cultured new strains of Streptomyces soil bacteria, including S. avermitilis. This sample of soil from woods (close to a golf course) in Kawana, was gathered, on the south east coast of Honshu, Japan. Ōmura sent a culture S. avermitilis to researchers at Merck Research Laboratories in the United States. (Brittanica.com) 'He cultured bacteria, which produce substances that inhibit the growth of other microorganisms. In 1978 he succeeded in culturing a strain from which parasitologist William Campbell purified a substance, which in a chemically modified form, became the 'wonder drug' that proved effective against river blindness and elephantiasis.' (Nobelprize.org). Let's explore the Controversy within the Controversy. 'In 1987, the pharmaceutical company Merck established the Mectizan donation program. This program is considered an exemplar among drug donation arrangements. Three hundred million people have been treated with 'the wonder drug' , donated by Merck in more than 30 countries' ( Forbes, 2021) . So here we have a 'wonder drug' that has been given to an estimated 300 million people, over a 40 year period and its safety to the human body is suddenly being contested? Why? Comparatively ... 'A typical vaccine development timeline takes 5 to 10 years, and sometimes longer, to assess whether the vaccine is safe and efficacious in clinical trials, complete the regulatory approval processes, and manufacture sufficient quantity of vaccine doses for widespread distribution.' ( John Hopkins). Were people really wrong in labelling the Covid Vaccine's as 'experimental' ? Even as the FDA recently fully approves Pfizer,(for adult use) can they truly predict the long-term effects of the vaccine? How can a Vaccine that hasn't completed standard clinical trials, (at least 5- 10 years) ...seem safer than a drug that has been performing in human use for 4 decades with minimal to rare side effects? The proof, they say, is in the pudding. ___________________________________________________________ So let's explore side effects. 'Wonder drug' : "...continually proven to be astonishingly safe for human use. Indeed, it is such a safe drug, with minimal side effects" Satoshi ŌMURA , Nobel Prize Winner (The Microbiologist himself). Side effects are rare and usually minor. These include: * Transient tachycardia (fast heart rate) * Flushing * Nausea * Lightheadedness * In treatment of onchocerciasis; fever, rash, muscle or joint aches and tender glands and eye irritation/swelling or pain * In treatment of strongyloidiasis; diarrhoea, skin rash * More severe neurological side effects are theoretically possible in rare susceptible individuals ( Dermnet.nz). Compare that with common side effects of the Covid Vaccine: * pain or swelling at the injection site. * feeling tired or fatigued. * headache. * muscle aches. * chills. * joint pain. * fever. * redness at the injection site. * Nausea. To the (most prominent ) serious side effects of Covid Vaccine. •Myocarditis/Pericarditis, •Stroke, •Haemorrhage, •Miscarriage, •Anaphylaxis. Deaths from Covid Vaccine in New Zealand Up to and including 14 August 2021, a total of 31 deaths were reported to CARM after the administration of the Comirnaty vaccine. *Deaths contested, awaiting Coroner's decision etc). An antiviral's results and a vaccines result may be like comparing apples and pears? Yet doesn't informed consent allow one to weigh up which results you would rather risk? We currently don't have the option in New Zealand. Any Pro-vaccine Doctor prepared to give informed consent to their patients (on the subject Covid Vaccine alone), is under threat of losing their Medical License. (Drs Shelton & Dr Conlon). With CARM reported 31 deaths, 6 miscarriages many adverse reactions (*serious heart problems) all as result of the vaccine, shouldn't we have the right to know the effects and choose our own medical treatment ? If a Pro-vaccine Doctor can lose his license doing his duty in regards to Informed Consent, the question we should be asking yet again, is why? ________________________________________________ Another factor plaguing the Covid Vaccine, of late - is it's waning efficacy over time. The revelation that herd immunity is now considered impossible and that vaccinated people still transmit Covid, was a bitter pill to swallow. Does our future entail endless booster shots? Can our economy even afford these booster shots? When is enough, enough? As Israel approaches their 3rd Booster shot, 1 million Israelis have opted out and forfeited 'their green pass'. Tensions may rise surrounding the right to refuse said 'ongoing Booster shots' especially as the recent report from Israel's Ministry of Health released the news that, 'The Covid-19 vaccine is now only 39% effective in Israel'.(*delta variant). The New England Journal also recently publishing its findings, "Waning of vaccine protection against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection or coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is a concern". '...a dip in protection with Delta Variant, (vaccine) efficacy sitting at just 66%', The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Morbidity & Mortality weekly report. Reality looms in New Zealand as we deal with the weight of our 1.4 billion dollar Covid Vaccine roll out. Just how much do these treatments cost per person? The Covid Vaccine costs a whopping $273 per New Zealander ( * albeit this includes all equipment surrounding it). Comparatively the WONDER DRUG NZ $0.79c per person. 'A variety of doses and durations were used in clinical trials. The higher-quality API was estimated to cost instead around $3000/kg [29], meaning that a course could therefore be reasonably produced for $0.55 ( *American currency) after accounting for costs of excipients, formulation, tax, and profit. How do we gauge the NZ Government (& the Media) approach to this drug...as anything other than hostile? The blatant refusal to engage in talk or even consider anti-viral treatment ... has National even raising questions as their main Opposition Party. Which may serve them well in the future. How does Government support the complete dismissal of this drug by Dr Bloomfield, despite all the scientific evidence, the notable peer reviewed study, various random controlled trials. Why wasn't the Pfizer vaccine treated with the same extreme precaution? Especially as the vaccine deaths (CARM) surpass Covid deaths. Can Medsafe continue to maintain "Low" efficacy rating in this drug, as a treatment of Covid, despite the valid accruing scientific data revealing otherwise? Why does the Government ignore New Zealanders continued public outcry for the treatment to be made accessible? Why aren't these questions being asked by the Main Stream Media? ________________________________________________ The NZ Media proving to be a huge disappointment in follow up of research on this medication. They had the opportunity. Instead they focused on exposing desperate New Zealand citizens, who tried to obtain it. The Media's negligence showing in their failure to perform in one of their critical primary functions, investigative journalism. Their energy was directed at negative coverage of an effective drug - instead of an honest endeavour to the find truth and pursue evidence. It meant that New Zealand was in effect roadblocked, by the very people who could have been instrumental in highlighting a powerful anti-viral treatment. In the fight against Covid, the Scientists have been warning of the resurgence of Covid in differing variants. Can we really afford to have all our eggs in one basket? New Zealand needs viable science backed options, not senseless roadblocks. Journalists & Broadcasters in New Zealand seem to be unaware of the growing mistrust of the general public toward them. With their obvious inability to truly challenge and hold the Government to account. Ultimately leading to more questions? Why have we come to this? Do Government bail-outs effect 'gutsy' investigative journalism? How long can New Zealand withstand the 'group think' status quo of our current Journalism standards & News broadcasting? The Media has done a huge disservice to New Zealand, but overall the Government will be held accountable for their decisions surrounding the Covid Pandemic. One can understand, enlisting the 'wonder drug' would - upset the Government's course of action, in the long run it also may pose as a threat to their political reputation? After all the 'wonder drug' being so much cheaper, less of a safety risk, incredibly effective, especially as a preventative treatment... could serve as a future point of criticism of their management of the Covid crisis. Exposing a strategy that is inflexible with its approach and not up to par against a complex changing virus. ________________________________________________ As New Zealand faces our second year & second variant, we should begin to ask ourselves-whose best interests does this health crisis - and its 'solution' serve? Pfizer and Moderna, have upped the prices of their Covid-19 vaccines. 'The projected sales forecast for Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine is expected to exceed $18.4 billion for 2021 and analysts estimate that company could deliver $15-30 billion in 2022. Similarly, following the announcement of its Covid-19 shot price increase, Pfizer's 2021 revenue forecast for its Covid-19 vaccine now exceeds $33 billion'. (RM Con.). CEO Albert Bourla and other Pfizer executives continue keep their eye on the bottom line. Bourla predicting "durable demand", ongoing shots, in the form of Booster shots. Chief Financial Officer Frank D'Amelio, was quoted as saying "We're in a pandemic pricing environment," he said. "Obviously we're going to get more on price." (*transcripts). Activist Organisations have accused Pfizer of "profiteering" on the pandemic. These group of activist organisations noting, "Their investors and their CEOs are becoming billionaires for the first time ever". It's all thanks to the patents on their vaccines. (H.R 2021) Pfizers expansion to new markets is no secret. Now their target is Children under 12, despite the research showing Children's 99.9% full recovery of Covid and the benefits of natural immunity,(as it is long term). The hard question to ask is, is the Vaccine about Science or is about money? Unfortunately for Pfizer it has a track record in putting money first. For a company who was ordered to pay the greatest criminal fine in history, it is a fair question to ask. How does a 40 year old Nobel Prize winning 'wonder drug', (effective, cheap, peer reviewed), which is freely distributed to poorer populations ...benefit Big Pharma? It doesn't. As it stands, we are not in a stable position, with herd immunity classed as impossibility by Scientists and our Government alike, the Covid Vaccine efficacy waning, vaccine injuries becoming a growing area of concern, the sheer 1.4 billion pricetag of Vaccine package ... and the cost & impact of Lockdown. Of all the mounting costs, is the social impact (696 Suicides) the highest to pay? Have the Government truly taken stock of this? Is there room for course correction, as it seems clear, anti-viral treatments must be brought to the table. We all know continued Lockdowns & endless shots are not sustainable. Ultimately one is left with too many unanswered questions. However undoubtedly one of the the most significant questions of our time in regards to the Covid virus, has been answered.
