Delays after smoke seen coming from lyttleton Road Tunnel.

At approximately 6.30 am smoke was seen coming from the lyttleton Road Tunnel in Christchurch.

The Tunnel was closed and Road Tunnel Staff investigated.

It is believed that a electrical fault in an extraction fan is the problem.

Tunnel traffic is down to one lane and members of the public are asked to use alternative routes to and from Lyttleton if possible.

Expect delays if using the tunnel for around the next 2 hours until 9.30am.
