Police investigate homicide after body found in river

BALCLUTHA

At approximately 1500 hrs on Saturday the 12th January Balclutha Police were advised of a body seen in the Clutha River near Stirling. 

Detective Inspector Ross Pinkham said 'other CIB staff from Dunedin are currently assisting Balclutha Police on the investigation'. 

Police staff are working with the Fire service in an endeavour to remove the body from the river. 

Mr Pinkham said ' the New Zealand Police Dive Team are going to assist the investigation'. 

Balclutha Polie are unaware of the possible ID of the Body. 

A 'No Fly Zone' has been put in place with a 5 km radius and 5500ft of the scene whilst the recovery takes place.
