A service to remember Sir Edmund Hillary will be held on New Plymouth’s Puke Ariki landing at 10.30am next Tuesday (22 January), followed by live coverage of his funeral on a giant screen.

“The service and funeral coverage will provide a fitting opportunity for locals to come together and remember one of New Zealand’s most revered individuals,” says Mayor Peter Tennent.

The brief local memorial service has been put together by Bill Marsh and the team from St Mary's Church. It includes a welcome by the Venerable Trish Carter and a tribute by Robin Drake.

The Hillary condolence book, which will be located inside Puke Ariki over the weekend, will be taken out to the landing on Tuesday for those wishing to leave their thoughts about Sir Ed. The book will then be returned to the Civic Centre foyer where it will remain until Friday, before being sent to the Hillary family.

The set up and hire of the giant screen for coverage of the funeral has been kindly funded by TSB Bank.
