NELSON

Nelson City Council in partnership with Tasman District Council is proud to present the smarthome – a mobile roadshow display unit which demonstrates hands-on ways people can make their homes more sustainable.

The answers to your questions
The smarthome provides a wide range of information to help you answer these questions:

Would you like to make environmentally friendly choices when planning building projects, but don’t know where to start?
Have you ever wondered what different types of insulation are available and their insulation ratings? The smarthome has a cut-away section of wall, floor and ceiling so that you can see for yourself.
Have you ever considered how you can design your kitchen to make recycling and composting easier? The smarthome shows you how recycling and composting can be built into your kitchen cabinets.
Have you ever wondered how tricky it would be to install double glazing into your existing window frames? The smarthome shows you how double glazing can be used in the window frames of any house.
And of course, there are many other features in the smarthome, from heat pumps to solar electricity generation; from low flow shower heads to green hot water cylinders.

Where you can find the smarthome
smarthome is at Absolute Energy in Pascoe Street until Friday 8 February and is open to the public from 10am to 4pm weekdays. Entry is free.

Sponsors
The smarthome has also been made possible through the donation of labour, funding and materials from a range of sponsors. In particular The Certified Builders Association, Absolute Energy, New Zealand Window Shades, Reliance Engineering and TNL Freighting have made a tremendous contribution.
