Turangi Turtle Pool attracts Genesis sponsorship

Turangi’s upgraded community pool will be officially renamed the Genesis Energy Turangi Aquatic Centre when it re-opens later this year following a multi-million dollar upgrade.

The naming rights sponsorship agreement between Genesis Energy and Taupo District Council was announced yesterday.

Chairman of the Turangi/Tongariro Community Board Don Ormsby says the eight year sponsorship is worth $50,000 annually – taking account of inflation – and reflects Genesis Energy’s commitment to Turangi and its residents.

“The sponsorship funding will offset annual maintenance costs at the pool reducing the financial burden on ratepayers. Genesis Energy is a major corporate in this area and the Turangi/Tongariro Community Board welcomes its support for what we believe will be a valuable community asset for people of all ages,” said Mr Ormsby.

The $4.5 million upgrade to the former Turtle Pool includes heating of the existing 25 metre pool and toddler’s pool, a learner’s pool and a 1.8 metre deep activity pool, new plant and changing rooms, additional storage and an upgraded entrance area.

Construction is well underway and the Genesis Energy Turangi Aquatic Centre is due for completion in July this year.
