World renowned NZ Army band to play in Rotorua

Bay of Plenty residents will have a chance to see the world renowned New Zealand Army Band when they perform at the spectacular Bay of Plenty Searchlight Tattoo at the International Stadium, Rotorua on 23 and 24 February.

The New Zealand Army Band is well known for being creative and using humour in its performances. At their 2006 performance at the Edinburgh Tattoo the band lived up to its reputation as “one of the most innovative bands in the world” with their performance which included ballet and Highland fling segments, a haka, and tributes to James Bond and Austin Powers.

The NZ Army Band will be among more than 1800 performers at the BOP Searchlight Tattoo, including the Royal New Zealand Navy Band, Artillery Band, combined Royal NZ Air Force base bands, along with bands from Australia, England and the Netherlands.

The popular 1812 Overture will be performed with effects provided by the New Zealand Army’s 16 Field Regiment from Linton Camp.

The pageant will also feature a 50 person Guard of Honour of Royal New Zealand Navy personnel, a simulated military battle, NZ Police dog display, Lochiel Drill team, massed brass and pipe bands, choirs and dancers as well as Navy/Army/Air Force Cadets.

On the Saturday night the Guard of Honour will be inspected by His Excellency the Governor General of New Zealand, the Honorable Anand Satyanand. On the Sunday the Guard will be inspected by the Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Jerry Mateparae
