Fatal Crash in Waitemata blocks SH1

The Waitemata Police District's Serious Crash Unit (SCU) is currently investigating the scene of a fatal car crash on State Highway One (SH1), Orewa Township. 

Due to the locality of the scene both vehicle lanes are currently blocked. 

There is no alternate route north in the immediate vicinity and motorists intending to travel further North than Orewa are directed to exit left at the Silverdale interchange and travel West through Waitoki to join SH16 through to Wellford. 

Southbound traffic is advised to leave SH1 at Wellsford and travel on SH16. 

The details of the crash, including the deceased details will be released when known. 

The SCU, per Sgt Stu Kearns, estimate that they will be at the scene until approximately 5pm.
