Search for missing tramper near Queenstown

QUEENSTOWN

At 7.30pm on the 22 February 2008 Police were notified that a male in his 50 has become separated from his tramping party in the Wye Creek area near Queenstown.

The male is an English tourist who is a member of a bus tour who has been doing tramping trips in New Zealand.

The male is an experienced tramper who was equipped for a day tramp but has a survival pack with him.

This pack should enable him to survive overnight if he is not located.

Police, Search and Rescue and two four wheel drive vehicles are currently being used in the search of the Wye Creek area.

If the man is not located tonight Police and Search and Rescue will resume their search at first light on Saturday the 23 February 2008.

The search is being co-ordinated by Queenstown Police and Search and Rescue.
