SH1 Closed in Two Locations

State Highway One has been closed in two locations due to traffic crashes.

Diversions are in place at Taupo and Turangi, through the Western Bays on SH32 as emergency services deal with a truck fire on SH1 at the Hatepe Hill.

The truck, which rolled at about 10.00 am, was carrying flammable liquids including turpentine, and CO2 cylinders.

Some of the cylinders have been exploding. There are no reported injuries at the scene.

And a serious three-car crash in the Dome Valley, north of Warkworth at 10.30 am, has closed the highway there.

Diversions onto SH16 from Warkworth and Wellsford have been posted. A helicopter is en route to uplift at least one seriously injured person.

Police attending the incidents are aware that both locations are amongst the most difficult to manage in regards diversions in that they require lengthy detours for motorists. All efforts are being made to minimise the closure times.
