Police locate an empty kayak in water
Police are currently searching for the occupant or owner of a yellow kayak that was found washed up at Inconstant Point, just north of Pencarrow Head near the Wellington Harbour entrance this afternoon.
The kayak is approximately 8 ft long, with no rudder or hatches and was partially filled with water.
It does not appear to have been in the water for long, and is described as having yellow topside, white hull, with a purple sticker on the front labelled 'Insane'.
There is a piece of polystyrene inside attached to the hull with a piece of string.
Police also located a red bag washed up on shore approximately 1 km south of the kayak.
The bag contains a sleeping bag, 2 jerseys, pair of shorts and some food. Police believe the 2 items are connected.
Anyone with information that will help locate the owner of the kayak is asked to call Wellington Police Comms on 3812000
