Heavy rain should ease by early afternoon

Heavy rain in parts of Southland and South Otago should ease by early
afternoon,with another 20 to 40mm likely in some areas. Similarly,
heavy rain in the ranges of eastern Bay of Plenty and northern
Gisborne north of Ruatoria should also ease this morning, although
lighter falls are still likely through to this evening.

People in these areas are advised to look out for rapidly rising
rivers and streams, and take special care while driving.

Heavy rain and strong wind warning are lifted for all other areas.

FORECAST:

THE RANGES OF EASTERN BAY OF PLENTY AND GISBORNE NORTH OF RUATORIA
The rain should continue to ease this morning, but lighter falls are
still possible until this evening. Another 20 to 40mm is possible in
places during the 6 hours from 8am to 2pm today.

SOUTHLAND AND OTAGO FROM ABOUT DUNEDIN SOUTHWARDS
Further heavy falls are possible through to mid-morning before easing
to showers by early afternoon. Another 20 to 40mm of rain is likely
in places during the 5 hours from 8am to 1pm today, especially about
the eastern hills from Dunedin to the Catlins.

FREEZING LEVEL: About 2500 metres lowering to 1500 metres
in Southland and South Otago late early afternoon.
