Child hit by car in Hamilton

A child suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a car while running across a Hamilton road this morning.

The two-year-old girl was taken to Waikato Hospital where she was in a serious, but stable, condition.

The accident happened about 11.30am in Bankwood Road, Hamilton, Senior Constable Mark Chivers said.

"The speed limit in the area is 50kmh and there is nothing to suggest that excess speed is a factor in this incident," he said. An investigation was being carried out by the Waikato Serious Crash Unit.
