WELLINGTON

Wellington Police believe a young pyjama clad child seen by road workers walking in the Hataitai area early this morning has returned home.

As at 9am there had been no report from any parents or caregivers of a child missing from home. Police would have expected to have heard by now if a child was lost.

Patrols including a police dog searched the Hataitai and Kilbirnie areas without success this morning after roading contractors spotted a child, aged about four years and wearing black and yellow pyjamas, walking near their construction site at 4.30am. The girl ran off when workers approached.

The construction workers were concerned and alerted police.
