Subject with a knife in Wellington
At approximately 2.30 am this morning police were called to a Titahi Bay address as a result of a number of 111 calls made by an occupant of a local address.
A 41 year old female carrying a knife was found locked inside her house when officers arrived. The decision was taken not to attempt to gain entry and negotiations to take her into custody were commenced from outside the premises.
A dog handler and members of the Police Negotiation Team were also called to this incident.
After some 2.5 hours of talking with the occupant she eventually surrendered to police without any further incident just before 5 am this morning.
Noone was injured at any stage and no other person was involved in this matter.
The female is currently being interviewed by Porirua Poice however it is not yet known what charges would be laid.
In the circumstances the incident had potential to become extremely volatile with the possibility of injury to any of those involved high. Staff exercised a good deal of restraint and patience over a prolonged period and as a result were able to avert any undesirable confrontation.
